BEAUTY IN THE BREAKDOWN

As the Yucatan’s jungle continues to be ripped apart from the roots, developers who promise to take care of the land are clearcutting it. There are thousands of wildlife species throughout Tulum and there are density laws meant to protect all of it; however, corruption from both business owners and the municipality prevents those regulations from being effective. If a developer is told by law that they cannot cut down a certain number of trees, all it takes is a little bit of bribery money to change the rules. The same natural beauty that is drawing millions of people to this area, is being destroyed in order to maximize returns on investment – but without the beauty, profits break.
