The Maya believe that obsidian is the dark mirror of truth. That it reflects the duality of human nature between right and wrong, between light and dark – acknowledging that one cannot exist without the other.
To face our demons, we must first look in the dark. And just as the phoenix is born from ash, light is born from darkness, and without this contrast, you'd never see the stars.
